Autumn 2010
Award winners
The Wharf House is proud to have been honoured with the AA's esteemed Red Rosette for culinary excellence, which is the only restaurant in Gloucester to receive this award.
The award was made after the restaurant and rooms were recently assessed for quality and consistent standards of hospitality, service, food and comfort receiving four stars for the newly opened bedrooms.
David Penny Commercial Director of The Wharf House expressed his delight stating "I am very proud of how far we have come over the last 5 years and receiving this acknowledgement proves the team who have worked so hard have an exciting future"
The Wharf House are passionate about retaining and building on this reputation and are looking forward to this years Christmas menu's being just as well received. The Christmas season begins at The Wharf House on the November 1st 2010 and runs right through until January 31st 2011. David also "hopes to welcome some new faces as well as those of our loyal regulars throughout the season as a combined celebration of this ongoing success and the Christmas season".
CPRE Award Winners
The Campaign To Protect Rural England (CPRE) Gloucester recognises local projects which are outstanding in their contribution to the environment or to the local community. The CPRE have proudly presented The Wharf House with an award for the restoration of the Over Canal Basin and construction at The Wharf House, as they were greatly impressed by the thought and quality of design apparent in the project.
David Penny Commercial Director of The Wharf House and Herefordshire and Gloucestershire Canal Trust has expressed his delight stating "This is the second award we have been presented with this month so, for the restoration work to be recognised at the same time as our restaurants performance, together with The Canal Trust we are humbled and encouraged with the support we are now experiencing"
He went on to thank the huge number of volunteers and businesses that had played a part in it's success "it is so fitting that this award should come along a few weeks after the 10th Anniversary at the restoration at the Over Canal Basin, the biggest all volunteer site in the whole Country in 1999/2000" opened by Prunella Scalls and Timothy West.
The Wharf House and Canal Trust are passionate about retaining this reputation and are looking forward to this years Christmas menu's being just as well received. The Christmas season begins here at The Wharf House on the November 1st 2010 and runs right through un-till January 31st 2011. We hope to welcome some new faces as well as those of hour loyal regulars throughout the season as it is a celebration of success.
Extensive work has been completed on the Wharf House roof, where EvoEnergy Ltd have installed 94 photovoltaic panels. These enable us to generate our own renewable energy and so reduce consumption of energy from fossil fuels.
The Wharf House has always had a policy to be as environmentally friendly as possible, regularly composting perishables, recycling glass bottles and jars and adopting high efficiency equipment. We have recently replaced our old cooker with a more efficient induction hob cooker. However this new development of photovoltaic cells will have the most impact, dramatically decreasing our carbon emissions, another step in making the business more Green. We would like to say a big thank you to Naturesave for their contribution to this project, to the Community Sustainable Energy Programme who provided a major grant, and to the Carbon Trust for an interest free loan. This help has been very much appreciated.
